Holy Grail setup

Hi Everybody,

Here is a video showing a beatiful "holy grail" setup on the 3min YM form yesterday. As you can see, this netted over +8R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission) - amazing !!

TS1 sell nails the high of the day !

Hi Everybody,

I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving holiday and managed to have time to relax and enjoy time with friends and family !

But for those of you who did do some work on Friday, you will have seen that MTPredictor nailed the very high of the day for you on Friday ! The ES then carried on down to the first projected Profit target for as lovely +4.3R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission).

Even though it was a short day on Friday, MTPredictor managed to nail a beautiful profitable trade for you all !

Larger Degree trend

Hi Everybody

Today I have two Videos for you, the first showing how to use the “larger degree trend” on the 15min Charts to help avoid losing trades:

The second, for the more Advanced Traders among you, I have added to the Advanced Blog. Here I show how the tools in MTPredictor managed to nail the very low of the day for you in the 5min YM for a lovely +5.7R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission), so do please go over to the Advanced Blog and take a look.... http://elliott-wave-trader.blogspot.com/

VSA and DP’s

Hi Everybody,

There we a number of lovely VSA / DP setups on the 3min YM yesterday, for almost +7R Profit. I just hope that the advanced traders among you made the most of these great setups.

Here is a chart of the last setup. I particularly liked this one as it had the added confirmation of a minor 5 wave low coming in at the DP support as well. As you can see, this nailed the low perfectly to take advantage of the sharp rally into the close for a very nice +3R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission).

I just hope that you are all making use of these tools in the software, to uncover great trades like these !

Brilliant TS3 sell nails high !

Hi Everybody,

Yesterday was a brilliant example of what MTPredictor is all about, with a brilliant TS3 short trade on the 3min NQ yesterday. Yes we did have a small (-1R) loss first, but then the TS3 sell nailed the high with a TS3 sell at 11:54EST.

The NQ then decline beautifully to reach the first projected profit zone where Profits were taken as the STF was weak (standard trade management guidelines) for a lovely +6.5R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission). In fact this target zone nailed the low of the day and as such was the perfect place to bank Profits – this is the power of MTPredictor !

But seriously, this does how the US e-minis do give us lovely (and very profitable) trades day after day, and MTPredictor does its job (day after day) to highlight and alert you to them........

Thanks, Steve

TS3 buy on the Russell Index

As I suggested in my last post, just as the YM was making a -1R loss, the Russell Index gave us a nice TS3 buy setup. This is where Amateurs (who get frustrated at losses) would have missed this long trade. Which is why many Amateurs never make it as professional as they get too emotionally involved with the markets. This is sad, as this means they miss out on great trades and never make a success of trading.

As we can see, this TS3 long when onto make a very nice +3.3R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission). In fact, profits were taken as the high of the day came in – Amazing !!

As a PS for the Advanced Traders among you, please go over to the Advanced Blog to see how a “stop and reverse” at this high would have added another great profit to the day.......

Thanks, Steve

A good day..............

Hi Everybody,

Good to be back and I see that we had some good trades while I was away. Looking over Friday, I see that if you were careful and logical you should have had a god day. Let’s start by looking at the 3min YM to show you what I mean.

Here, the first TS4 buy would have probably been stopped out for break-even. Then comes the frustrating bit, where the TS3 buy at 11:36EST was stopped out for a -1R loss by just 1 tick. This is when Amateur traders fall down as they would have got frustrated and then would have missed the TS3 buy on the Russell Index that unfolded just after this. I will take a look at this in my next post.

Thanks, Steve

TS4 buy nails low on the YM !

There were no such questions on the 5min YM, where we had a lovely TS4 buy setup that nailed the low of the day for you !!

As you can see, the YM rallied nicely off the low. Although the market did not have time to reach the first target, there was a nice +2.2R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission) available on the close.

Thanks, Steve

When to use the 100% initial risk guideline

Hi Everybody,.

I am often asked when Traders should protect their trades with a “initial” stop loss adjustment. With Daily Charts we use the 100% initial risk guideline, but we normally give Intraday charts more “wiggle room”. However, when a trade is “uncertain” or “against” the larger degree trend (15min Charts), then this 100% initial risk guideline can help avoid a otherwise losing trade.

A good example was the TS1 buy on the 3min ES from yesterday. As you can see, this ES reached the 100% initial risk level before declining. So raising your protective stop to break-even would have meant a “break-even” (or flat) trade, so no loss, which is always good........

But why do it on this trade, and not others ? Well it is all about the larger degree (15min ) chart, so for this please take a look at the Advanced Blog.

Thanks, Steve

Amazing day Part 2

We have already seen a massive +9.7R Profit on the 5min YM, but just after this trade there was a TS2 sell on the 3min YM. Again, this was a completely standard setup as the STF was red.

With a +2.5R Profit at the first target (ignoring slippage and commission), this put the Profits for the day to over +12R – amazing !!

Notice how this profit target nailed the low of the day for you, so MTP has not only nailed the high of the day for you (5min TS3 sell), but also the low of the day – now that is amazing..................

But it does not stop there, if you look at the Advanced Blog, you will see why Advanced Traders could have also considered the DP buy off the low of the day....

But seriously, I think that very few Amateur traders who are reading this post fully appreciate how good days like this are and how amazing the routines in MTPredictor are to be able to nails trades like this for you.......

Thanks, Steve

Amazing day !!

Hi Everybody,

I am still absolutely amazed how well the routines in MTPredictor work sometimes, even though I designed them !! Here we can see a perfect TS3 sell on the 5min YM yesterday that nailed the very high of the day for you !

This was a completely standard setup, as the STF was red, then profits were taken at the first target as the STF was weak. The result was a massive +9.7R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission) !!

Trades like this still amaze me, and show that massive profits do unfold, you (as the trader) just has to have the patience and discipline to wait for them.

But the story does not stop there...........

Thanks, Steve

Tuesday 19 October 2010

Then along comes a good trade

As I said in my last post, sometimes trading can be frustrating, but it is usually not long before a good trade comes around. For example yesterday on the 5min FT (Russell Index), this TS£ buy nailed the low, just before a nice rally.

Using the standard trade management guidelines, would have produce a nice +3R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission).

Amateur traders often get frustrated after a loss and as such miss the next (good) trade, and as such end up in a spiral of defeat. Professionals learn to trade without emotion and just follow their trading guidelines.

Thanks, Steve

The realities of Trading....

Hi Everybody,

Too many Gurus and software vendors just tell you “what you want to hear” to sell you their products. This is because they are not reek traders themselves. But we are different here at MTPredictor, we tell you the truth, including how hard and frustrating trading can be in the “real world” sometimes. For example, when we had a lovely TS3 buy setup yesterday that was stopped out buy just 1 tick before going onto the original profit target.

This is frustrating when this happens, but in the “real world” things like this do happen. The market is not out to “get you”, it just happens sometimes, and as professional traders, we must learn to not let it affect us. There will be a good trade to come very soon.

Again, we are one of the very few companies that tell you how trading is “in the real world”. I just wish there were more companies in this industry that have the same view....

Thanks, Steve

Cherry Picking............

It is amazing how many people who look at this Blog write in and complain that I “cherry pick” or only show the good trades. I guess these people have never seen this help video: http://www.mtpredictor.com/help/videos/65-history2/65-history2.html that shows how we have the “history triangles” on the chart so we show “all” the trades. So how can I “cherry pick” when the software shows all the trades ? People who complain like this are usually people who don’t do the required work to learn and understand what it means to be a successful trader, so don’t really understand what they are looking at.

Here is another good example – all trades shown and yes even with more losing trades than winners, a Profit is made overall. This is what successful Professional Trading is all about, and it was we focus on here at MTPredictor...... The tools successful Traders need. No pampering to what Amateurs “think” they need, there is a BIG difference, I guess that is why 97% of Amateurs fail in this Industry. So the choice is simple – do you want to be a losing Amateur or a successful Professional ?

Thanks, Steve

It is all about the losses...........

Hi Everybody,

While I was away, there were some very good examples of what it means to be a successful Professional trader. Successful Professional Traders know and understand that long term success is not about winning, it is actually about the losses and controlling them. Successful Professional Traders also know and understand that you can have more losses than winners, in fact it is easier to do this, BUT (and this is the part amateurs never understand) you can still come out on front “if” you keep the losses small and have BIG Profits this is what MTPredictor s designed to do.

Here is a great example on the 3min Russell Index from last Thursday, more losing trades, but a Profit overall.....

Amateurs never seem to understand that successful trading is actually about losing, in fact losing more than you win (number of trades), this is why I believe that most amateurs can never make it as Professional Traders, because they never can accept that successful trading is more about how you lose (keeping the losses small) than how you win.

Thanks, Steve

Lovely +4R Profit on the NQ

Hi Everybody,

Another good day on the US e-minis yesterday with a standard automatic TS buy setup on the 3min NQ, please see attached. As you can see, the NQ rallied nicely to reach the first projected profit target, where a nice +4R Profit was available. Note how the STF was weak (not past its strength band) indicating that the WPT targets should be used for the trade exit.

A completely standard trade managed using the standard management guidelines........

Thanks, Steve

TS4 sell nails the high !

Hi Everybody,

After a few quiet days it was nice to see this TS4 sell on the 5min YM nails the high of the day, right before a sharp fall. AS you can see, this short trade nailed this decline in the 5min YM perfectly.

As the YM got to the first projected Profit target, the STF was strong (beyond its strength band), so standard traders would have swapped to the ATRStop. This held the short trade for a very nice +5R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission).

But what amazed me was where the decline stopped, please see the Advanced Blog for this.

Thanks, Steve

Keep the losses small.......

Hi Everybody,

Yesterday was a brilliant example of why it is so important to keep the losses small. What most amateur traders never realize is that losses can and do happen, but the trick is keeping them small and under control.

On the 3min YM yesterday we had 4 automatic trades, 3 were losers BUT (and this is the important point) the 1 profit make +3R (ignoring slippage and commission). To have 3 losses and only 1 Profit and to come out break-even on the day is a brilliant result. Amateur traders must understand that losses can and do happen. We are one of the few companies that talk about losses, and it is important to understand that losses will happen in this industry.....

Thanks, Steve,

Please see the Advanced Blog, where I will show a trade I talked about a few days ago that would have made yesterday Profitable overall.

Wednesday 29 September 2010

3min ES follows the Dax

We have already seen that the 3min Dax gave us a lovely TS4 sell at 8:54EST. So let’s take a look at the 3min ES, using 24hr data and see what unfolded around then. As you can see, the 3min ES did indeed follow suite with an automatic TS4 sell unfolding at 9:06EST.

Normally I use the “day session” times for the US e-minis (9:30 - 16:15EST), but we can get some nice setups just before the open, and that is when having a look at the 24hr data can come in.

As we can see, the ES followed the Dax down, resulting in a nice +7R Profit as DP support came in. For the Advanced Traders among you, notice how this decline unfolded as a minor 5-waves, with the low at the Typical Wave 5 WPT. Also, notice the Stochastic divergence on the entry as well as the exit. For the Advanced Traders among you this was a perfect trade ! And one that I hope the newer traders among you can start to fid for yourselves. Again, all the tools are in MTPredictor and the setups are there, it is just up to you whether you which to take the time to learn how to find them......

Thanks, Steve

Holy Grail trade on the 3min Dax

Hi Everybody,

The 3min Dax had another brilliant “Holy Grail” trade yesterday. Please remember that just because there is a History Triangle, it does not mean that it was a losing trade. In this example, the Dax made a double top, so the initial TS4 short trade was not stopped out.

As you can see, this nailed the high, just before the Dax collapsed. With +14.4R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission) available as DP support came in, this was another amazing trade. If you would like to see how this TS4 sell came in at a “larger degree” Wave (2) please see the Advanced Blog, where I take a more detailed look at this setup.

I know that some of you don’t trade the Dax, so in the next post I will take a look at the 3min ES (using 24hr data) to see what unfolded at the same time as this Dax sell setup

Thanks, Steve

A quiet day – the time to go Advanced

Hi Everybody,

We have had a couple of quiet days on the US e-minis for the automatic setups. But that is OK. So now is a great time for me to remind you all that you all have some brilliant tools already in the software that you can make use of. For this please take a look at today’s Advanced Post on the 5min YM – here MTP nailed the very high of the day for you !!

There are too many people who simply rely on the Automatic signals, without taking the time, and making the effort, to learn how to use these more Advanced techniques. When you do, you will be amazed at what additional trade opportunities you can uncover !

Thanks, Steve

Friday 24 September 2010

The result - a massive +20R Profit !

Hi Everybody,

And here is the result - a massive +20R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission) !!!

Yes, this TS4 long trade turned an initial risk of just Eur 350 into a massive profit of approx Eur 7,000 !!!

What an amazing trade............... And all found and then managed using the Standard MTPredictor trade guidelines.

Thanks, Steve

Dax doing well this morning..

Hi Everybody,

A quick post on a lovely TS4 trade that is unfolding at the moment on the 3min Dax.............

Steve

BIG Profits and small losses....

Hi Everybody,

The 3min ES yesterday was a perfect example of how MTPredictor is designed to keep your losses small and yet allow you to have Big Profits. Here there were two automatic trade setup, the first was a loss, but (and this is the important part), the loss was kept small as just -1R, or 1 risk unit.

Then the TS 4 sell (which nailed the high of the day for you !) then had you short as the ES declined for the rest of the day. The result was a nice +5R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission) at the end of the day.

But do you all see the important point here, in that the profit was much much larger than the loss. BIG Profits and small losses, this is the key to successful trading..........
BTW, please see the Advanced Blog for a lovely "Gap Open" play on the NQ yesterday
Thanks, Steve

Gartley 222 pattern

Hi Everybody,

One user wrote in yesterday asking about the Gartley 222 pattern, and was surprised to hear that the TS1 setup that we have in MTPredictor can already find this setup. For those of you who don’t know, the Gaetley 222 is a pattern described on page 221 and 222 of a book written by .M. Gartley’s book, “Profits in the Stock Market”. Basically it is an abc correction that reverses at either a 61.8% or 78.6% retracement of the prior swing. This is very similar to the abc correction in an Elliott Wave (2) correction, as such we can find it in MTPredictor.

If you look at the chart, you can see a perfect example on the 5min ES from yesterday, where the TS1 sell (abc correction) unfolded right at a 61.8% retracement....

This is why MTPredictor is so powerful and is far more than just a bunch of automatic setups, if you all take the time to learn you will understand the setups and why they are so good........

Thanks, Steve

Wednesday 22 September 2010

Beware the News........

Hi Everybody,

For those of you who have not been trading for very long, I would like to show you all what “typically” happens on days when there are big news announcements. Yesterday we can see how the markets just drifted sideways, while everybody was waiting for news to be released. Then as the news hit, the markets make sharp, quick and big swings. All of this is NOT the kind of market you want to be trading in...........

So the advice that all experienced traders will give you is to either avoid completely, or be very very careful, on days when a big news announcement is due.......

Days like this are risky and can lose lots of money for you, so be very careful on days like this........... Always take a note (in advance) of the days when announcements are due.

Thanks, Steve

The Cyclical Nature of Trading

Hi Everybody,

Yesterday was a quiet day on the US e-minis. But this is OK and just part of the cyclical nature that markets unfold. If you remember, we get quiet times as well as hard times (when small losses unfold) as well as the good times (when we get the good Profits). WE have had a number of good days recently, so a quiet day was only to be expected........

Having said that, when the automatic setups are quiet, the more experienced traders among you can use the additional tools in the software to uncover more “manual” trades. Please see today’s Advanced Blog for a good example.

Thanks, Steve

YM 3min Chart – lovely TS3 long trade....

Hi Everybody,

Friday was a good day, with this lovely TS3 buy setup on the 3min YM catching a nice +3.2R Profit(ignoring slippage and commission) (Ninja 7 with DTN.IQFeed data), using the Standard trade management guidelines.

So even though, on the surface, the day seemed hard as the market only moved sideways in a narrow and choppy range, MTPredictor still came out with a nice Profit.

Thanks, Steve

Friday 17 September 2010

5min charts.......... again.

Hi Everybody,

Again, yesterday was a good example of why I say to keep an eye on the 5min Charts as well as the 3min ones, as the best trades yesterday were on the 5min charts.

For the Standard Traders among you, the 5min NQ was the one to consider as the TS3 buy came in on a blue/black STF. The NQ then rallied nicely into the first project profit target, where a nice +3R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission) was available. (eSignal data in MTP v6.5)

But the markets did continue higher later in the day, so was there a way to take advantage of this ? Yes, and that is what I will look at in the Advanced Blog.

Thanks, Steve

Thursday 16 September 2010

TS3 long on the 3min NQ

Hi Everybody,

The day ended well yesterday with a nice TS4 buy setups that unfolded on the 3min NQ (eSignal data on MTP v6.5). This was a completely standard setup with the TS4 buy coming when the STF was black. The trade then rallied into the first projected Profit target for a nice +3.2R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission).

I do have to remind people that because data can be different using different data sources that different Traders can and will get different setups. This is the same for “any” trading system, it just a fact of Trading life, and there is nothing we can do about it as Traders. Therefore, it is no good trying to compare your results with a friend, it is best to focus on your own trades. Few amateurs realize or fully appreciate how different data can be, and find it surprising that it is different, but it is.

Thanks, Steve

Wednesday 15 September 2010

Nice TS4 sell makes +5R Profit.

Hi Everybody,

It was another good day on the US e-minis yesterday, with a lovely TS4 sell in the afternoon yesterday on the 3min YM that gave us a very nice Profit.

As you can see from the chart, there were a few invalid setups in the morning (against STF) and then a -1R loss before a small +1.5R Profit on the way up this TS4 sell. Please note: different data feeds are different so not all data feeds will give exactly the same signals.....

This TS4 sell was a completely standard setups as the STF was black at the time. When the YM reached the Profit target is was so near the end of the day, simply banking the +5.4R Profit would have been a good idea. This would have still been a nice +4.9R profit if held into the close.

So overall, it was a very good day yesterday on the 3min YM for MTPredictor yesterday.....

Thanks, Steve

DP sell nails the high of the day !

As an Advanced Trader, I always like to look at Advanced trades as well, because that is where the true power of the software is and to be honest I still find it amazing how good MTPredictor can be at times, so wouldn’t it have been nice to be able to catch the high of the day as well !

Well, as you can see, we did have a DP sell at the high of the day. What I like about this was that although the STF was red it was on stochastic divergence and also on a high volume (VSA) bar. The only thing that I also look for is “larger degree support or resistance”, so let’s take a look in the Advanced Blog for this.

As you can see, the YM decline nicely off this high for a possible +5.7R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission) as the TS4 buy came in......

So here we are with MTPredictor nailing both the high and low of the day for you – now I find that absolutely amazing !!

Thanks, Steve

TS4 buy nails the low of the day !

Hi Everybody.

What an amazing day on the YM yesterday !!

I will start by looking at the TS4 buy setups, as that was completely standard, as it was on a blue STF. The only question was when the TS2 sell arrive a little while later, but as the STF was still blue at this time, this should have been ignored. As such, the TS4 long should have been held into the close for a very nice +3.8R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission).....

Plus (for the Advanced users among you), this TS4 buy was also on a lovely high volume (VSA) spike as well ................

What a lovely trade...........

Thanks, Steve

Monday 13 September 2010

A good start for the European Traders...

Hi Everybody,

The European Traders among you had a very good start to the week, with a very nice TS3 buy setup on the 3min Dax just this morning.....

As you can see, this was a completely standard TS3 buy setup as it was on a blue STF. Profit were taken at the first target as the STF was weak, all for a very good +5.9R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission.

What a great start to the week !

Thanks, Steve

Don’t forget the 5min Charts

Hi Everybody,

I have mentioned this before, but please do not forget the 5min Charts, as they very often have some lovely setups. Here is a great example from Friday on the 5min NQ chart, where a TS4 sell gave us a very nice +3.3R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission).

As you can see, the first projected profits target nailed the very low of the day, so was the perfect place to look to bank profits.

It is all too easy to look for shorter and shorter time frames and forget that that slightly longer (5min) charts very often give us smoother swings and as such very nice setups.

Thanks, Steve

A good day for the US e-minis - Part 2

But it was when this DP buy came in later in the day on the 3min NQ, which added a nice +2.6R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission), that the day started to look good.

Again, this DP buy was a standard setup as it unfolded on a black STF (Dec contract, with eSignal data), and the hit the initial target with a weak STF.

Thanks, Steve

A good day for the US e-minis - Part 1

Hi Everybody,

After a quiet day on Wednesday, yesterday was a good day. Let’s start by looking at the 3min YM. But first, I hope you all remembered to move forward to the Dec contracts yesterday, as they are now the “front month”.

On the 3min YM, you had to wait until late in the day for the TS2 sell, that gave you the best profit of the day. This was a standard setup, on a red STF. Although the Profit was small at +2.4R (ignoring slippage and commission), it more than made up for the -1R loss earlier in the day.

Thanks, Steve

+9R Profit on the DAX

Hi Everybody,

Just because the US e-minis have been quiet, it does not mean that all markets have been. Here is a brilliant long trade off an automatic DP buy that has just made +9R Profit on the 3min Dax just this morning !

As you can see, first we had a -1R loss. But (as usual) this loss was kept small and under control, then the automatic DP had you long from the low, after which a strong rally unfolded. As the first target was reached, the STF was strong, so standard traders would have swapped to the ATRStop. This held you long as the Dax continued to rally.....

The result was a massive +9.2R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission).........

Amazing – and all from a standard and automatic setup !!

A quiet day

Hi Everybody,

It was a quiet day on the US e-minis yesterday, but as we all know, because of the Cyclical Nature of Trading quiet days do unfold.

On quiet days I look to use more “manual” and “Advanced” techniques to uncover additional trades. Please see the Advanced Blog to see a High Volume (VSA) spike trade that I was following myself on the 3min FTSE yesterday. This shows what is possible with the tools you already have in the software.......

Thanks, Steve

Russell does the job

Hi Everybody,

I still find it amazing how different the individual e-minis (ES, NQ, YM and TF) move. You would have thought that they all move together but they don’t, there are differences. A great example is on the 3min Russell Index from yesterday, where we had a massive +8R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission) which did not unfold on the other e-minis. This is why I suggest that you need to look at all 4 of the US e-minis, as you can get a setup on one market that is not the same as on another.

Either way, the TS3 sell on the Russell was completely standard (red STF) as well as the trade management (STF weak, so take profits at the WPT target), so was a very nice Profit indeed.......

Thanks, Steve

The Profits come in !

Hi Everybody,

Well, I did say in yesterdays post that we were now overdue for some nice profits, and that is exactly what we got on the 3min YM ! As you can see, this TS4 buy setup nailed the low of the day for you. The YM then rallied all day to reach the first target just before close, but as the STF was strong, the ATRStop was used to hold the long trade into the close.

One trade and one bib profit of +5.4R (ignoring slippage and commission) – brilliant !

Now are you all starting to understand the Cyclical Nature of Trading, and how profits and losses go in cycles. I have seen this day after day for over 20 years. This is why I spend so much time trying to educate you all how the markets unfold in the “real world”. That is why yesterday I knew that after a harder period we were due for a nice profit – and that is exactly what unfolded !

Thanks, Steve

A quiet day.

Hi Everybody,

As part of the Cyclical Nature of Trading, the markets also have quiet days, when few (or no) setups unfold. Yesterday was one of these days. Quiet times are just part of trading, again amateurs are always after excitement and action (which is wrong), where the professional has the patience and discipline to wait for the low risk setup to come to them.

We have had a hard period recently, with not many big profits, so that just tells me that we are nearing the part of the cycle when a string of big profits are about to unfold. It is usually at this time that most amateur traders get bored, just before a big trade.

So let’s see how the rest of the week unfolds.

Thanks, Steve

What it means to be a professional trader.....

Hi Everybody,

A lot of new amateur traders struggle with what it means to be a professional trader. They have the wrong impression that trading is easy and they will make big profits every day. This “myth” is banded around buy non trading Gurus and salesmen in an effort to sell system that don’t work. The hard reality is that trading is hard, not technically by psychologically. This is because most of the time you are just “treading water” controlling your losses or making small profits. It is only a small number of BIG profits that make the money over time. Please read this PDF:

http://www.mtpredictor.com/support/documents/How%20Profits%20and%20loses%20unfold%20in%20the%20real%20world.pdf

This is the same for the vast majority of successful approaches to the markets, and is on of the main reasons (I believe) that most amateur traders never make it to become a professional because they simply do not understand how profits and losses unfold in the “real-world.

I hope this “reality check” helps you all understands what it means to become a successful trader – forgetting the “myths” that are banded around on the Internet and accept the reality of how trading “really is”

Thanks, Steve

PS, having said that, the Advanced Traders among you will always be able to find more trades using some of the more Advanced techniques in the software, please see the Advanced Blog

The Cyclical Nature of Trading.....

Hi everybody,

The 3min ES was quiet yesterday with no valid automatic setups, but that was OK. This is all just part of the natural way markets unfold, in that we have quiet times, and then times when small losses unfold, along within times when the good profits come through. I call this the Cyclical Nature of Trading....

As we have had a hard time over the last few days, it will not be long before we get some brilliant good profits come though. Sometimes this is one of the hardest thing new amateur traders have to learn, in that we don’t get big profits each and every day. That is not how the markets work. In fact most of our time as a professional trading is risk control, keeping our trading capital in tact ready for the big trades. Professional know and understand this, but how the market really unfold in the real world is a lesion that most amateurs find hard to learn.

Thanks, Steve

PS, take a look at the Advanced Blog, to see how learning to become an Advanced Trader will help when the standard setups are quiet. Here you will see how MTPredictor has nailed the high or low of the day for the last few days running, which is pretty amazing !

My favourite setup

Hi Everybody,

You should all be with what I call “My favourite setup” as I out detailed it many many times before. It is when I look for the “first correction” off a “initial rally” off an “important low” to unfold as an abc pattern. Well that is exactly what we got on the 3min ES yesterday.

As you will see in the Advanced Blog, there was good initial support from the 15min Chart, so when this TS3 buy unfolded it was a good one to consider, even though the STF was red at the time. The target was the Typical Wave 3 WPT. As you can see, there was a massive +8.4R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission) available as the Typical Wave 3 WPT target was reached !

This is why I love this setup so much, as it carries such a high profit potential.

Thanks, Steve

100% initial risk guideline

Hi Everybody.

When you are unsure of the “larger degree” position, you can consider using the 100% initial risk guideline to help protect open profits. This us covered in the Trading Course, but basically means than once a open traded has exceeded the 100% initial risk level, you move your initial protective stop to break-even.

As you can see, this helped avoid an otherwise -1R loss on the 3min ES yesterday, making this a “break-even” trade.

So I hear you all ask – why dint we use this all the time ? Well, short-term charts often need more “wiggle room” than Daily charts. So when the “larger degree” position is clear I normally suggest not using this guideline. Only use it when you are unsure or against the larger degree trend.

Thanks, Steve

PS, if you want to see how well these markets unfold, then take a look at today’s Advanced Blog, where we see how the 3min NQ unfolded absolutely perfectly as defined by our more Advanced Tools. Being able to nail virtually every high and low throughout the day is amazing, and in MTPredictor you have the tools that can do just that !

A hard day for the Standard traders.

Hi Everybody,

It was a hard day for the standard traders among you yesterday. But as we all know, the markets unfold in cycles, where Profits and losses cycle round with the quieter time. I call this the cyclical nature of trading. It is just that the standard setups are in the hard part of the cycle at the moment. It will not be long before the good time (profits) come round again.

But this is why I encourage you all to follow the Advanced Blog and learn how to use some of the more Advanced tools that are in MTPredictor. As you can see from today’s post on the Advanced Blog, when you do, you will be able to take advantage of some great trades. This will more than make up when the standard setups are having a hard time.

MTPredictor can nail turns in the market brilliantly, you will see this on the 15min ES chart. The tools are there in the software, it is up to you whether you wish to take the time to learn how to use them. To help you, I post Advanced examples on the Blog everyday as well as go into more detail in the Trading Course.

Thanks, Steve

DP from Wave B low

Hi Everybody,

Yesterday was a tricky day, with the markets basically just chopping sideways all day. Days like this are always hard to trade. But we did get a TS3 sell on the 3min ES around lunch time. The ES then declined into the DP from the prior Wave b low. For those of you who read these Blogs regularly will know that this is a “minor” support level that can be used when markets are going nowhere (choppy).

As you can see, at this level there was a small, +1.8R Profit available (ignoring slippage and commission).

For those of you who are slightly more experienced, you will also see that there was a high volume (VSA) spike at this DP support level. This gave added weight that a low was in the process of unfolding, and as such profits should have been protected.

Thanks, Steve

Correct Position Sizing....

Hi Everybody,

Yesterday we had a brilliant example of why the use of correct Position Sizing is so vital to long term success. Using the Standard setups we had 4 trades on the 3min YM, 3 were loses and one 1 winner. On the surface this looks bad, UNTILL you look at the profits and losses when using correct Position Sizing. 3 -1R losses equals -3R down, BUT (and this is the important point), the one profit was +4.1R (ignoring slippage and commission). So this one profit wiped out the three (-1R) losses and put you into profit overall.

This is the main concept that most losing amateurs don’t seem to grasp, that you can have more losing trades than winners and still make money overall. Successful trading is about keeping your losses small and having big profits it is not simply about having a high % of winners. In the “real-world, having a high % of winners is actually very hard to do. Therefore it is far easier controlling your losses, as in this example. In fact if you read the Market Wizards Books, many of the world’s best traders only have about 40% winning trades. Most losing amateurs never seem to fully understand this point.

However, I understand that we all like to be “right”, so let’s take a look at the 15min trend on the Advanced Blog and see if these losses could have been avoided....

Thanks, Steve

A good day for the Standard Traders

Hi Everybody,

Isn’t the Cyclical Nature of Trading amazing ! After a few harder days for the Standard Traders among you, the 3min YM then gave us this lovely TS3 buy set-up. This was a completely standard setup, with the TS3 buy falling in line with a Blue STF. The YM then rallied to the first profit target, where a nice +5R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission) was banked as the STF was weak.

A perfect and completely standard setup and trade management..........

Thanks, Steve

15min trend

Hi Everybody,

For the Standard Traders among you, it was a hard day on the US indices. Yes hard days do happen, this is just part of the Natural Cyclical Nature of Trading. But, was there a way to avoid some of these losses ?

Yes, but it did mean using the 15min Charts for trend (rather than the STF), so this did require a slightly higher level of experience over and above the basic standard trade management guidelines. This is why I spend so much time on this Blog, trying to educate you all to become better traders, because I know that to get the most from trading takes experience and hard work. But (as we will see on the Advanced Blog), this hard work is defiantly worth it .....

Thanks, Steve

Russell in on the action later

Also, for those of you who follow the Russell Index, we had a nice TS3 sell later in the day that made a nice +2.2R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission) as well.

So a bit like the day before, on the surface a hard day, but with Patience and Discipline you should have some out OK

Lastly, if you would like to see how amazing MTPredictor really is, please take a look at the Advanced Blog for a trade I was following myself yesterday for a massive +10R !!

Thanks, Steve

Mind the Gap... Part 2

But notice the difference on the 3min YM. Here the TS3 sell was “within a whisker” of filling the gap. And on the YM, the short trade was not stopped out, and went on to reach the DP support zone for a nice +4.3R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission).

Please note, I am not saying that this always will work, but most experience traders will always be aware of “Gaps” and how the markets likes to fill them..........

Thanks, Steve

Mind the Gap...

Hi Everybody,

Yesterday was a hard day, but there was one trade that I would like to look at in a bit more detail. And that was the TS3 sell at 10:54 on the ES and YM.

But first, let’s look at the Gap Down on the open. As the more experienced traders among you will know, gaps will normally “get filled”. So taking a trade where the market is trying to “fill the gap” as we had on the ES yesterday should always be vieww3de with caution. So this was the first sell on the 3min ES yesterday and was just the second one as well.

But this leads me nicely onto how markets do unfold differently. On the ES the 10:54 sell had “not quite” filed the gap, so let’s look at the YM in the next post.

Thanks, Steve

Thursday 12 August 2010

Patience, Patience, and more Patience

It was not only the ES that had a good trade yesterday, the YM got into the act as well. But, as with the ES, the TS3 sell on the 3min YM only arrived very late in the day.

As you can see, this TS3 sell caught the fall in the last hour of trading, for a nice +2.7R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission). Add this to the Profits from the ES and yesterday turned out to be a good day, even if you did have to wait a long time, the Profits were there...........

Thanks, Steve

Patience, Patience, and more Patience

Hi Everybody,

Yesterday was a good example of why you need Patience as well as Discipline when trading. Yesterday the markets were very quiet for most of the day with the 3min ES just drifting lower slowly. However, the ES gave two sells signals later in the day, the first for a -1R loss, but the second was for a +2.9R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission).

AS always, the Profits was much larger than the losses, therefore making money overall.

So the lesson here is even though it may be quiet, all “day traders” must be there for the whole day as you never know when the profits will arrive.....

Thanks, Steve

Tricky trade management, Part 2

If we now turn to the 3min NQ (see chart) and if you also look at the 3min Russell (not shown), both these markets were at DP support. Sp with this in mind, it would have been a good idea to look to protect at least some of your open profit on the 3min ES short trade. Especially as you had two -1R losses earlier in the day and we were expecting a hard day yesterday.

In this way, you could have come out of yesterday break-even, which is always a good result when it is a hard day.

This is all about gaining experience and “learning” to become a better and more experienced trader....

Thanks, Steve

Tricky trade management

Hi Everybody,

Today I would like to look at a short trade on the ES yesterday and how to manage it, especially as it was slightly tricky.

First, I would say that “normally” I would suggest sticking to the “standard” trade management guidelines if you are a Standard Trader. But my goal though these posts is to move you beyond this level to become a more experienced trader.

So here was the position yesterday. We had a good day the day before, so we should have been expecting a hard day yesterday so when we had two -1R losses early on, our aim should have been to look to get back to break-even for the day (as we were expecting a hard day). So my question is whether there were any signs to help you protect this 3rd good trade ? Normally we look to the DP form the minor Wave b low, but on the ES it had not quite got there............ But this is where we keep an eye on all the 4 E-minis.

Let’s take a look at the NQ in the next post

Thanks, Steve

Tuesday 10 August 2010

NQ helps as well

There was also a nice TS3 buy later in the day on the 3min NQ. Please see the chart. His resulted in a nice +2R Profit (ignoring slippage and commission). Adding this to the -1R from the ES and the +3R from the YM meant that we had a good day on the US e-minis yesterday...........

Note: as the STF was blue, the sell setups were avoid by the standard traders among you.

Thanks, Steve
